Today the Root House is a state-listed Georgia Historical Landmark. It is a fine example of the Queen Anne-style that was popular during the early 1800s.

It is located on the corner of Lemon and Church Streets. The Root House was a single-family dwelling until the 1940s when it was converted into three apartments.

This historic structure is one of the oldest residences in the city and was originally located on the southeast corner of Marietta Square. It is now maintained by the Cobb Landmarks & Historical Society.

Nearby is the Oakton House, built in 1838. This beautiful home is the oldest continuously occupied house in Marietta and served as Major General Loring’s headquarters during the Battle of Kennesaw Mountain in 1864.

Other interesting places to visit in Marietta include the Gone with the Wind Museum, which is located at Brumby Hall; Six Flags White Water, which is located on Elizabeth Porter Park; and Marietta Square, a leafy area where you can stroll and take in the views.

The Marietta Historical Walking Tour provides a fun way to explore the town’s past. You can listen to a recorded guide as you walk around the historic district and learn about Marietta’s fascinating history.

There are several other historical sites in the city, such as the Marietta Confederate Cemetery. The graves of over 3,000 Confederate soldiers are located there.
